Pump Terminology Glossary
D
- Duty point
- The combination of flow rate and total head a pump is required to deliver for a given application. It is the starting point for pump selection.
H
- Head
- The energy a pump adds to the fluid, expressed as an equivalent height of liquid column in metres. Total head accounts for static lift, friction losses and any pressure requirement.
N
- NPSH
- Net Positive Suction Head — a measure of the suction-side pressure available to a pump relative to the fluid’s vapour pressure. An adequate margin helps avoid cavitation.
